Native American Project – Home Project
The 5th
grade class is starting an exciting journey: learning the story of our nation’s
history. Over the next few weeks, we will be learning about the first Native
Peoples of North America. We will discuss different types of homes that Native
Americans built to live in, traditions in which they celebrated, and items that
they made to represent their lives and culture. Each student is to pick one
item from below, create that item with whatever materials they wish, and also
write a one page essay describing why that particular item is important to the
Native American culture, how they made it, which tribes made it, where that
particular tribe was located, and etc. Students will have time in class to
research and write their essays, however, whichever item they choose to make
from the list below must be done at home. Students need to be creative and have
fun with this project! Students will present their creations and essays to the
class on Friday, October 17th. Please make sure that these items are
in boxes or on some type of platform which is easy to carry and transport from
one place to another.
